Chapter 9

Ætherglow #174

“Going down there physically could be a bad idea. Let’s investigate ætherside,” you say.

“I agree,” El says.

“Okay. I know the æther here well, just stay with me,” Synth says.

“Someone should body guard,” El says.

“Here.” Synth draws their gun and hands it to them. “Transferring fire authorization to you.”

“If that’s what you want, okay,” they say.

“I’d love to have you with me ætherside, but if the computer is getting data to Aydan’s vision, I can’t trust her to guard us on the surface. I want them with me.”

“That makes sense. Well my eyes and my mind are clear, I’ll look after you two,” El says.

“Thanks.” Synth pulls El toward them, hugs them tight and kisses them. “We’ll be right back. Ready Aydan?”

“Yeah.” You sit down and try to get comfortable leaning against the metal wall. Synth sits down across from you and closes their eyes. “See you in the æther.”

You activate your implant, and the warehouse around you dissolves. You’re flying through the passageway of light as it begins to take shape, but you’re not alone.

An avatar’s metallic hand reaches out at you from the distant æther. Its form takes shape--surrounded by a dim white aura, a person with transparent skin with a pale blue glow to it, and four triangular eyes glowing deep red on its face. It feels much bigger than you here. A mass of little wires stretch from its body, growing out of its skin, and begins to encircle you.

What do you do?

1) Raise my shield immediately and keep him out of my head: 2 (66.66%)
2) Execute Synth’s reflective shield program to repel him away from me: 1 (33.33%)
3) No defense like a good offense--strike while his guard is down: 0 (0.0%)
4) Open a gateway and get away from him--anywhere: 0 (0.0%)
