2254-11-07 14:08:58 Zeta > sure I’d love to!! do you want to come over to my room?

It responded quickly. You head for your building and its tower, and reach its room on the lower floors. Recognizing your key, the door slides open as you approach.

Zeta at its desk turns to greet you with a happy stim of its hands.

“Hey,” you say.

“Hi! Welcome back to here,” it says.

You cross the little room and sit down on the bed, looking over at Zeta’s project on its desk--all kinds of scattered circuit components and wires connected by some kind of makeshift breadboard.

“What are you up to?” you say.

“Oh, well ever since our experience last month I’ve been listening to music more, and I thought it would be fun to replicate a primitive oscillator and voltage controlled amplifier and some kind of envelope filter, and also so I could have a signal to test some other ideas with. Surely I could get better results with real hardware than a virtual machine.”

“You’re always close to the metal.”

“It’s comfy there,” it says.

“I didn’t even know you played music,” you say.

“I don’t know much about music yet. But our combats with Pulse and her self-insert gave an idea to maybe develop a hardware-based defense against auditory attacks. Like patching the input up to an augment that modulates everything into a weaker, more manageable signal. But I’m not sure what kind of filter would make sense here...”

“What do you think?”

1) “A compressor would limit the dynamic range of the attack, in effect weakening its offensive capacity.”: 3 (30.0%)
2) “A phaser could allow us to bypass the attack entirely, but it would be hard to predict phase timing without a sense of time.”: 0 (0.0%)
3) “A high pass filter could allow us to focus our defenses on a narrower frequency range.”: 3 (30.0%)
4) “I don’t know much about this, but my friend might, I could ask what she would do.”: 4 (40.0%)
